Cab Harvest with Cara

Daughter number two, Cara, here. This year I have the amazing opportunity to make three (!!) barrels of Cabernet Sauvignon – from start to finish. On Wednesday, we picked the wonderful grapes, and destemmed them. Here is a photo of me during this season’s harvest.

We had a crew working with us, so we picked 8 tons of grapes in total, most of which was sold to a winery in Napa.  This year we will harvest about 45 tons of grapes from our 9 acres of vines, the bulk of which are Cabernet Sauvignon.  Our planted varietals include Chardonnay, Roussanne, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Malbec, Zinfandel, Tempranillo, Petit Sirah, Primitivo,  Petit Verdot and Cabernet Franc.

I’m super excited that I have my grapes! Personally, I like big, bold reds with lots of oak. Cabernet Sauvignon is one of my favorite wines, so starting with it will be perfect. This will be the first of many short blog updates. I will keep you updated on my Cabernet Sauvignon’s progress, in the meantime please feel free to reach out if you have any ideas on a name for my vintage!
